Now maybe you’ve heard about how great it is to stay at a New Hampshire inn already. How famous they are for their homely styles, and hearty cooking, and individual room decors.
This is all true.
But it's also a fact most have a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. As I tell many of my friends who haven’t been to one yet… it’s just like staying with a bunch of new friends.
The host makes you feel welcome and makes sure your stay is an experience and not just a room for the night.

Okay, so now you know why inns and bed & breakfasts in New England are rightly famous. And why New Hampshire bed and breakfasts and inns in particular are among the best you can find anywhere in the world.
I’ve focused my information on three areas in New Hampshire; the seacoast, the lakes, and the mountains.
Now before I get any hate mail, there are many excellent New Hampshire inns in the Monadnock region – see my special bicycle vacations page – and there are lovely New Hampshire bed and breakfasts in the villages in the far north woods area as well.
But you know I’m just trying to give you an appetizer here and not a four-course meal. I promise I’ll give you other resources to check out later... so hang-in here with me.
You get to stay at historic homes and farmhouses...
Your choice of New Hampshire inns runs the gamut from historic homes to farmhouses. Many of these are hidden quietly away in villages and hamlets removed from the busy highways and in very rural settings… yet close enough to highways to get around easily.
New Hampshire is a budget conscious state with no sales tax although there is an 8% room tax on all lodging.
But the bottom line is that costs are generally lower in New Hampshire inns than elsewhere in New England.
The information on these New Hampshire bed and breakfasts was current at the beginning of 2005.
The rates given are from the lowest price in off-season to the highest room price on-season. I’ve included their web site address so you can find more specific information about these New Hampshire inns if any interest you.
Many of the sites have photos of the inn rooms so you get a flavor of what to expect.
So let’s get cracking by looking at the areas and some sample country inns...
New Hampshire Inns at the Seacoast...
The sample inns I chose are both in Portsmouth. A historic port town that dates back to 1630. It’s convenient to the New Hampshire beaches and is a short drive to the discount stores in Kittery, Maine. And for a piece of history be sure to visit The Strawberry Banke Museum.
Here's those inns...

New Hampshire Inns at the Lakes...
The lakes region in New Hampshire is a great setting for inns and bed & breakfasts. The sample two I’ve chosen are both on Lake Winnipesaukee, which is the largest lake in New Hampshire, and my personal favorite.
This area is very popular during the summer season and fall, so book early to avoid disappointment.
