Wonderful Massachusetts Sports
on Your Vacation

In this article on the top Massachusetts sports you can go and see while on vacation, you’ll discover where all the venues are, and how to get tickets for any event.

Massachusetts, and really the Boston area, is home to all the major professional sports teams in New England.

It doesn’t matter what time of the year you visit the region, Massachusetts sports are always in full swing.

While most Boston teams are well known to sport fans, the most famous is the Boston Red Sox.

So let’s start our Massachusetts sports tour with a visit to one of the most famous ballparks in the American League…

Take me out to the Boston Red Sox…

Just in case you haven’t heard – sports is real serious in Massachusetts. In fact one manager was asked if winning for his team was a matter of life or death, and the manger responded by saying “Oh no, it’s much more serious than that!

And 2004 season was a banner year for the Boston Red Sox – yes, the curse was lifted!

The Red Sox play at Fenway Park, on real turf, and the green monster and all. This is one of the last remaining old-style ball parks – they keep threatening to tear it down and rebuild, but it ain’t happen yet.

The atmosphere of the crowd and stadium, and the smells of famous Fenway franks and roasted peanut just make this a gotta do if you can squeeze it in.

Fenway Park is at Kenmore Square in the Back Bay area of Boston. Take the “T subway” out to Kenmore Square and follow the crowd.

The Red Sox are the hottest ticket in Massachusetts sports at the moment, and so you’ll have to settle for whatever tickets you can get. But check this place out to see what’s available.

New England Patriots and The Revs…

About a 45 minute drive from Boston is Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Foxboro stadium was torn down a few years ago and replaced by Gillette Stadium. The stadium has many improvements including the fortunes of the teams that play there.

You can get there easily by taking the Mass Pike(Route 90) west out of Boston to Route 495S and following the signs to Gillette Stadium.

Gillette is home to two sports and teams. The most famous is the New England Patriots.

Super Bowl champions for the last two years this team is “hot.” And with the return to the area of Boston College's most famous quarterback in Doug Flutie, the team looks all set for another great season.

Again tickets are hard to get, but check this place out.

The other sport played at Gillette Stadium is Soccer. The New England Revolution is in the MLS league and is consistently entertaining. I highly recommend a trip out to see The Revs, especially if you’re traveling with a family.

Parking is easy and the ticket prices are very reasonable as well. You can check out tickets here.

The crowd is very enthusiastic but family orientated if you get my drift – no matter of life or death in the result here. Yeh, they still boo the referee - but heck that happens around the world and is mild compared to South America where wars have been started over soccer games!

All in all it’s a great day out for the family.

Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins…

Boston’s major indoor sports arena is the Fleet Center. The Fleet Center is located at North Station which is a 15 minute walk from the Financial District in downtown Boston, or you can take the "T."

Both the Boston Celtics – Basketball - and Boston Bruins – Hockey - call the Center home. Beats me how they can play basketball one night, and then the next have a hockey rink all set up! Check here for Celtic tickets and here for Bruins tickets.

Other Massachusetts Sports Events…

Now special sports events come and go to New England, including Pro Golf and Pro Wrestling events. If you’d like to check out and see what’s available during your vacation then click here to check the guide for Massachusetts sports events.
