Or an Applefest in the western hills of Massachusetts... Or even a Harvestfest near a beach in Maine... There’s sure to be something to entice you to head out in the crisp autumn air to one of the festivals here.
Connecticut's Bethlehem Fair is this September 9-11, 2011. Events include a dairy show, lumberjack competitions, parade, tractor pulls, and lots of live entertainment throughout the three days. Friday starts at 5:00pm, other days 8:00am. The fairgrounds are on route 61. More >... Vermont State Fair takes place in Rutland, Vermont on September 2 – September 11, 2011. Events include Demolition Derby, Harness Racing, Dog Show, Horse Pulling, culinary arts, circus, amusement rides, and of course dairy shows and judging – well, it wouldn’t be Vermont without a few cows would it. The setting is perfect with the Green Mountain National Forest as a backdrop. More >... Maine’s blue ribbon classic agriculture fair is Fryeburg Fair being held Sunday October 2nd – Sunday October 9th, 2011. Believe me in Maine they know how to hold one of these livestock beauties. Here’s what to expect: Tractor Pulls, Pig Scramble (no idea you’re on your own), Sheep Dog Trials (now you’re talking!), Calf Scrambles (no idea…) and Fireman’s Muster and Grand Parade. Dates this year are September 29th – October 2nd, 2011 and will be great for fall color. The fair has many traditional agriculture events such as horse pulling, sheep shows, tractor exhibits, along with jugglers, family comedy shows, and barrels of fun for all ages. More >... Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Massachusetts is known as the most thrilling of ski slopes in southern New England, but in October it hosts the monster AppleFest for just one weekend so don't miss it. In 2011 the dates are October 15-16 at 10:00am-5:00pm each day. In attendance will be over 60 craft exhibitors, farmers’ market, family side shows, pie-eating contest, pony rides, clowns, and moon bounces. They’ll also be running the chair lift to the summit for peak foliage viewing - definitely worth the trip. More >... Harvestfest is York in Maine answer to the fall festival challenge, and as the area has some of Maine’s finest beaches the setting on the ocean can’t be beat. This festival includes a variety of activities, live bands, an ox roast, bean hole beans and a mix of approximately 200 vendors: including Food Vendors, Juried Crafters, Marketplace Vendors, Go Green Expo Exhibitors and local Non-Profit Organizations. Harvestfest also includes a corn toss challenge, a POW-WOW, hayrides & much more. Dates in 2011 are October 15-16. More >... The 4th Annual Vermont Life Wine & Harvest Festival is taking place in the Mount Snow Valley in the Southern Vermont town of Wilmington with additional events occurring in the nearby towns of Dover and Whitingham. The festival will celebrate the best of wine, food and the good life and highlight the unparalleled quality and ingenuity of Vermont producers and artisans.
